Starting a business? Increase your chances
of success through the CBICC Incubator Program.
"On
average, 3 out of 5 new business start-ups fail within their first 5 years.
However, 4 out of 5 new businesses that start in an incubator program succeed
within 5 years."
- National Business Incubation Association
The
Wall Street Journal and the Small Business Administration estimated in 1999
that 65% to 70% of new business will fail within the first five to eight years
of operations. And, Bottom Up (a website for high-tech entrepreneurs, itself no
longer operating) asserted in 1998 that the failure rate for high-tech start-up
companies is three times higher than others. According to the National Business
Incubator Association, 87% of incubator graduates remain in business.

Why is the CBICC Business Incubator Program
Successful?
Paul
Silvis can tell you. He started Restek Corporation in the CBICC's Matternville
incubator in 1985. Twenty years later, Restek, a manufacturer of chromatography
laboratory supplies, has grown to over $30 million in sales with offices and
distribution centers in more than 60 countries.
When asked about his experience in the CBICC Business Incubator, Paul said, "As
a young entrepreneur, I did not have any practical business experience. Getting
the straight scoop from our peers in various stages of business was critical to
our success. Getting fatherly advice from mentors provided the support systems
when we needed it the most."
The purpose of the CBICC's Business Incubator Program is to provide a nurturing
environment where entrepreneurs can pursue their dreams. No one entrepreneur
can be expected to know everything. However, with the assistance of the CBICC,
entrepreneurs are assisted in building a vast network of advisors, coaches and
mentors who can help in a variety of situations.
To date, dozens of companies have graduated from the CBICC Business Incubator
Program. Many of these emerging companies have decided to remain in Centre
County and are now providing employment to hundreds of people. These businesses
provide economic stability for the region and are a vital part of the county's
success.
