State College, PA – A GoFundMe campaign for a Potter Township Amish family who lost loved ones in two separate farming accidents this year has surpassed its $20,000 fundraising goal.
The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau (HVAB) and the Chamber of Business & Industry of Centre County (CBICC), on behalf of its Happy Valley Agventures initiative, launched the campaign in October with $5,000 in seed money to assist Esther Beiler and her children. Esther’s husband, Andy, and two teenage sons died in a tragic farming accident on Sept. 21, 2022. Six months earlier, another teenage son also died in an accident on the family farm. Esther has six remaining children, four of whom are still at home.
The campaign, which ended Nov. 21, raised $22,000 from 143 individual donors.
“The HVAB and The Chamber are touched by the generosity of the local residents and businesses that joined us in lifting up a farming family facing such a tremendous loss,” said HVAB President and CEO Fritz Smith. “We hope the money raised will be a blessing for Esther and her children as they continue to cope with the loss of their loved ones.”
“The outpouring of support for the GoFundMe campaign reflects how much our Amish neighbors are valued, and how quickly and compassionately our community responds when there is a need,” said CBICC President and CEO Greg Scott. “Our organizations thank everyone who donated to the campaign.”
