We've written much about CentreREADY, our local workforce preparedness initiative conducted in partnership with all five of Centre County's public school districts and its two career and technical training institutions.
We've focused on goals and expectations. We've stressed why it matters to Centre County employers and ultimately, the local economy.
But what do local students who have enrolled in the program and hope to earn the CentreREADY designation think?
WHVL-TV recently spoke to several students for its "Centre of It All" program, which aired Sunday, March 17. We appreciated hearing their insights and think you will too!
"I wanted to do the CentreREADY program because I thought it would look really good on a resume; it makes a talking point," said Penns Valley High School senior Zachary Floray. "
"Seems like a great opportunity for a student to get their name out there," said South Hills School of Business & Technology student Roman Nekrasov. "If you sign up for the program, a potential employer will look at you and say that this person has all these requirements...and it might be potentially easier to get a job. ...it shows a student is hard working...and has achieved something."
Penns Valley High School senior Grace Shawber added, "I think it is something that is really going to hit home for a lot of kids. I think the people who are doing it right now are really excited about it, and we are starting to talk about it a lot more. I think it will continue to grow."
It's encouraging to see young people -- the 21st century workforce -- embracing CentreREADY and working to possess the core skills employers desire!
