On Thursday, the CBICC kicked off 2021 with a new event format called “Good Morning, Good News!”
Attendees spent an enjoyable hour seeing familiar faces, meeting new members, and hearing encouraging news from across Centre County! Here are a few highlights:
Weber Murphy Fox celebrated the completion of the State College Area High School’s Memorial Field which has been in use since the Fall 2020 season. Special thanks to CBICC member Galen Drebelbis for helping to sponsor part of this project.
Gary Brandeis of Hyatt Place State College celebrated the completion of Scholar Hotel, a boutique extended stay hotel inside the historic Glennland building in downtown State College. There are plans for a bar, bistro café, and other features in the future. Over 30 permanent, long-term jobs will be created as part of the project.
Hello Social announced the addition of two new social media managers to its staff and a new nationwide program to train social media managers to provide social media management services in their local communities.
GN Associates announced that it will be unveiling a new website in 2021 along with additional services to meet the needs of “solo-preneur,” startups and other businesses who only need office space for short periods of time.
New Member Blair Plastic Surgery celebrated 30 years of practice this year. After experiencing steady growth over the past few months, it is increasing hours, expanding services, and actively recruiting and hiring new employees.
Salvation Army shared that it nearly doubled the amount of families it was able to assist this holiday season thanks a partnerships with Mount Nittany Health and Walmart. The “Registry for Good,” a contactless way for the community to support local families in need, was a success.
The ARC of Centre County celebrated its recent move to a new location in Boalsburg and having sold its former location. The new location is better able to accommodate its needs and will allow it to continue serving adults with disabilities.
C3 Sports shared that it is bouncing back from the pandemic and that C3 Kids recently launched initiatives to better connect with parents, including the new Watch Me Grow program which allows parents to access a livestream of the classroom at all times.
Although Discovery Space of Central PA has remained closed due to the pandemic, it announced a donation from AccuWeather Founder & CEO, Joel Myers, to create a new weather exhibit. The Rivet has been open on weekends, providing workshops and classes to the public.
New member Storm & Park Group shared that it will be moving into a new building in February. It also recently partnered with Liberty Mutual and will be introducing a new insurance program to meet the needs of contractors.
PA CareerLink shared that is has continued to offer its services remotely, and employers have continued to post jobs and recruit new employees through these services.
Mammoth Restoration celebrated a new COO, a new office in Philadelphia, and its plans for opening two additional offices within the next six months; in Centre County, positions are available for technicians and possibly on the sales team. During the pandemic, it has been donating sanitization services to local volunteer fire companies, police departments, and other emergency services.
CentrePeace and Centre for Alternatives in Community Justice announced the creation of a new Community Conferencing Program to provide a space for offenders, victims, and others involved to talk with one another. The project will create new jobs in the community.
Centre Foundation celebrates its 40th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of Centre Gives this year. Last year, Centre Gives was able to raise over $2 million for local nonprofits. This year, it will unveil new features to help businesses promote philanthropy to their employees and the community.
Penn State SBDC shared that it is continuing to offer webinars and online workshops to help businesses learn new software, improve their marketing strategies, navigate grant programs during the pandemic, and more.
Envinity celebrated the extension of the 26% federal solar tax credit into 2021. It has worked with local healthcare providers during the pandemic to improve patient safety and was recently awarded a solar project with Diamondback Truck Covers.
ARM Group celebrated the opening of two new offices in New Jersey and North Carolina and plans to open a new office in West Virginia in 2021. The company will expand its State College office this year, creating new jobs in the community.
We look forward to continuing this event on a quarterly basis. In warmer months, it may move to an outdoor venue.
