Federal, state, local leaders unified to make i-99/i-80 high-speed interchange a reality in centre county
On Wednesday, Feb. 28, a contingent of business, community and government stakeholders from Centre County and the region traveled to Washington, DC to meet with U.S. Rep. Glenn "GT" Thompson; PennDOT Secretary Leslie Richards; and key Pennsylvania congressional staff in a show of support for the proposed I-99/I-80 high-speed interchange at the Bellefonte exit. In October, PennDOT applied for a federal grant to help fund the interchange project. The U.S. Department of Transportation is expected to begin considering the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) requests at the end of March. Federal approval is essential for the high-speed interchange project to move forward. During the meeting, the CBICC also presented a support statement that included the list of individual and business supporters of 'DRIVE Forward,' the grassroots initiative designed to garner broad-based support for the interchange and other major transportation projects critical to the Centre County region.
